JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An Orange Park man who traveled to meet a minor for sex has been convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison.
Ryan Scheurman, 28, pleaded guilty to charges of traveling to meet a minor to do unlawful acts, use of 2-way communication device to facilitate a felony, soliciting a child via computer to engage in sexual conduct, use or possess drug paraphernalia, and possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis.
Scheurman was arrested in April of this year in a Clay County sting operation called, "Don't Play in Clay." Throughout the five-day operation, law enforcement officers would correspond with men online who wanted to have sex with young girls.
Authorities say Scheurman set up a meeting to have sex with what he thought was a 14-year-old girl at a home in Fleming Island. When he arrived deputies were there waiting to arrest him.
Officers from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, agents from the FBI and deputies from Clay County Sheriff's Office assisted in the arrest. A total of 20 men were arrested.
