Man injured in home invasion robbery in Vilano Beach

VILANO BEACH, Fla. -- Police are searching for a shooter after he shot a man in an alleged home invasion robbery in Vilano Beach.

One man was life flighted to a Jacksonville hospital after being shot in the leg by a robber. It all happened on the 500 block of 23rd Street in Vilano Beach.

The victim told police that he was leaving for work when the suspect ambushed him in the garage, then ordered him back into his home and demanded money.

At some point, the suspect shot the victim in the leg and then left.

The shooter stole the victim's car which was found crashed just a few blocks away on Euclid Avenue. Police have scoured the neighborhood looking for the suspect, last seen wearing a ski mask.

The victim was flown to UF & Shands Jacksonville where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooter is still at large. Police say the victim identified as being approximately 5'10" and 180 lbs. If you know anything that can help police, please call 904-824-8304.
