JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville man shot in the heart with a pellet gun died Saturday from his injuries.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office tells Action News 22-year-old Charles Howey was taken off live support at 1:48 a.m. Saturday. Family members say Howey and his best friend, Cory Barnes, were playing with a pellet gun at their home on Jacksonville's Westside Thursday. That's when, they say, Barnes accidently fired the gun, shooting Howey.

Howey was taken to Orange Park Medical Center for treatment.

No charges have been filed against Barnes.

Charles Howey's parents say hope other will honor their son by donating blood to the Blood Alliance at the Orange Park Medical Center.

People should shut their mouths unless they know the whole story. Perhaps the 'shooter' is already receiving justice by living through hell that his best friend is dead. Imtelin'... so glad you aren't on a jury, convicting someone without knowing the facts. The scariest thing in this world is an uninformed opinion giver. This was a tragic accident, one family and friends are grieving over a death, the same friends and a different family are grieving over the life changing experience this event has caused. Hope nothing ever happens in your life that may be looked upon by others and judged, accidental or otherwise. Until then, I've heard that Idiots Anonymous meets on Wednesday evenings.

This is one of the most idiotic comments I have read since Quinn Gray was in the news. Wonder "what" she's doing these days ? ?

Imtellin; How can you possibly compare these two situations and throw out the race card to boot. One is a clear case of two stupid young men playing with what they they no doubt thought was a non-leathal weapon. Now one is dead and the other has to live with the fact that his stupidity killed his freind and no doubt will face criminal charges of some sort in the near future. The other a case of an man in his mid forties who got angry and ended up killing a young man over loud music.

this is the same man jso officers said when this was initially reported was going to be just fine ??? glad they ain't my doctors !!!according to jso his prognosis was fine even with a lead pellet lodged in his heart,, apparently until it became terminal !!! now a man is dead however accidently it allegedly occurred,, and another man/boy,, needs to be charged with at least reckless involuntary manslaughter !!! or is the shooter somehow related to someone with connections ??? white man kills a black man over music,, white man goes to jail & faces charges,, 2 white boys playing,, one dies and the other is still free at large emboldened by his brush with the law ??? what kind of mixed messages are the state of florida sending criminals ??? these 2 young men were old enough to know you don't play with weapons !!!accident or not,, a man is dead & society demands justice for this tragedy !!!
