JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It's been one week since a gunman opened fire in Sandy Hook Elementary, killing 20 students and six adults. Friday police arrested 37-year-old Mark Chan for threatening to do the same at Englewood Elementary School.
"I live right across the street. I have a six-month old son. That kind of scares me," said Ashley Day.
"You never can tell. You have to take these things seriously," said Anna Sikes.
Action News obtained Chan's arrest report. It says Chan made that threat on the National Alliance on Mental Illness' online discussion board. Chan told the group he was going to Shooters gun store on the Southside to buy "a mass assualt riffle" and was going "to shoot them all."
"This is kind of like someone who wants to ride on the coat-tails of the horrible tragedy up in Conneticut," said retired FBI special agent, Ron Wirth.
Chan also called the shootings in Conneticut "wimpy" which doesn't surprise Wirth. "Those are the kind of things you say to get more interest, to make yourself badder where things are already bad," said Wirth.
The report says Chan admitted to making the threats in a police interview. And he told officers he lived 200 feet away from the high school. Chan told police he didn't own a gun. Wirth says that doesn't mean he wasn't going to follow through on the threat.
"Columbine was planned a year in advance. They were planning during that time. So if you have a feeling something is going to happen, it needs to be told," said Wirth.
Chan is now is getting mental health treatment at Baptist Hospital.
