WHITE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Columbia County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man after he tried to cash a check drawn on the account of a dead person.

On Thursday, deputies found the suspect on a bicycle in the drive-thru teller at the Columbia County Bank branch at 1720 U.S. 90 West in White Springs.

Bank staff was aware of the deceased customer and notified law enforcement when the suspect tried to cash the $300.00 check.

Ray Newby admitted to deputies that he forged the deceased person's signature and attempted to cash the check.

Newby may have cashed other checks in the past and more charges are possible.

Newby is charged with forgery and grand theft.

He is in the Columbia County Jail.
