JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man was sentenced today to 40 years in prison for robbing a Korean War veteran in 2011.
Quayshaun Heath, 21, received the sentence today. He has to serve a mandatory minimum of ten years. He was convicted in January on charges of armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
In July 2011, 78-year-old Clyde Tompkins, a Korean War veteran, was picking up his mail at his apartment complex when Heath approached him at gunpoint. Heath took the victim's car keys and $12 in cash. Heath then took off in Tompkins' car.
Police spotted the stolen vehicle and arrested Heath and another suspect three hours after the robbery.
