JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tavion King knew something was wrong the minute he arrived at school.
"When I first hopped off the school bus, I came around and saw everybody clearing out of right here,” said King, a senior at Englewood Senior High School.
Tuesday morning, police spotted suspicious activity in the visitors parking lot at Englewood Senior High. When police approached the white Pontiac Grand Am in question they found the driver was armed.
The suspect has been identified as Tamolis Clark, 18. Clark is a former student at Englewood.
According to the arrest report, police found a loaded .22-caliber revolver pistol under Clark’s legs, a box of ammunition under the passenger seat, and a six-inch knife under the driver’s seat. Black gloves and a skull cap were also recovered from the scene.
Three other people were in the car at the time. They were all escorted out of the vehicle and searched, but Clark was the only one arrested.
Police say Clark goes by the nickname of “Bones” and is a member of the local rap group “Midlife.”
According to his arrest report, Clark told police he had “issues with a couple students at Englewood.” One of the witnesses in the vehicle with Clark told police he came there to “resolve” them.
“It scares the daylights out of me. I mean any parent would be scared,” said Kevin Nesbitt, an Englewood parent.
"This incident continues to remind us about the importance of school and student safety," wrote Duval County Public Schools Chief of Staff Wendy LeHockey in a statement. "Thanks to the current security measures in place, and the quick actions of those assigned to securing the parking area, the situation was quickly addressed.
Clark is being charged with possession of a firearm on school property, trespassing on school property with a firearm, and carrying a concealed firearm.
