JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Mayor Alvin Brown's new budget is in the hands of the City Council. The mayor's office says this year's budget shortfall will largely depend on whether police and fire pension reform passes.

The City of Jacksonville has a total revenue of $950 million in its budget this year, slightly up from the 2012-2013 budget.

The mayor's office projects a budget deficit of $18 million if police and fire pension reform passes. The budget projects a $64 million shortfall if police and fire pension reform does not pass.

The mayor's office says it will make across-the-board cuts to make up for the deficits. The administration also promised not to raise taxes this year.
