JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Mayor Alvin Brown is speeding up city business as it relates to business and growing jobs.

The mayor signed legislation today that reduces the number of City Council readings.

Measures with a financial impact of $300,000 or more may be approved after two readings. Measures with a financial impact on the city of less than $300,000 can be approved by City Council after only one reading.

The mayor cited research showing city decisions in Jacksonville took five times longer than competing communities.

Brown called the bogging down of city business "unacceptable." The mayor hopes this new legislation will speed things up, and make Jacksonville more competitive when it comes to jobs and investment.
