Most likely the battle group will also consist of a lot attack subs as well. 2 to 3 carriers would also most likely be sent to the area not to send in sorties necessarily but to provide air strike protection from any planes of Assad stupid enough to make run on our surface ships. The biggest challenge from the attack would be not hitting the Russian base in the area. It could escalate the situation badly if that were to happen. Still to let Assad to get away with the war crimes he has committed is insane. It's like letting a small Hitler do as he pleases genocidal as long as it stays in his own borders. With Hezbollah supporting him the rebels are caught between a rock and hard place. The time to act is now not 3 weeks from now. It should be very very severe strike and contrary to what has been said, we should be looking to take Assad head with a missile strike if he should pop his weasel face up. If he survive the strike he should be looking a nearly certain loss as his heavy equipment is all but destroyed. That would send the right message about killing children in cold deliberate blood.
