JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Medical marijuana petition organizers in Florida say they expect to reach a million total signatures this week.
Election headquarters here in Duval County and throughout the state are scrambling to certify hundreds of thousands of petition signatures. But it's more than just a total number of verified signatures required to make medical marijuana a ballot measure.
Jerry Holland, Duval County's elections supervisor, said a certain amount of signatures must come from each of the state's congressional districts.
"It's about 26,000 to 28,000 in each congressional district and then the remainder of the total is about 684,000 that have to be certified," said Holland.
Certifications must be made by the end of January.
If organizers fail to get the requisite amount of signatures in just one of the state's 27 districts, the amendment will not appear on the ballot anywhere.

So here is the "glitch" that will keep us from having this on the ballot in November. The verified registered voter signatures have to be a balanced number from each of the states counties. I did not know this was how this process works. The worse critic w/the most power~Bondi~will make sure it does not happen. I do not usually "wish" ill on anyone, but for this woman and any one she cares about, I would like to see them need help like this and be denied it because of politics and out dated facts on what relief pot can provide to many that are now relying on prescription medications to have some quality of life. Reminds me of Reagan and stem cell research. He and his wife were so against it, but when Alzheimer's took over their life, she changed her mind about it. Anyone that still thinks that providing medical pot will cause any more problems that what is currently the biggest problem~prescription drug abuse/addiction~is ill informed and frankly denying help to many.
