Meth lab found in Columbia County apartment

LAKE CITY, Fla. -- Two men were arrested after deputies discovered a meth lab inside an apartment.

On Tuesday, deputies went to an apartment in the 3700 block of Huntsboro Street to investigate a complaint of illegal drug activity.

Deputies noticed a strong chemical odor coming from inside.

One suspect was arrested outside the building.

Due to the overwhelming odor of chemicals, deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect inside via a PA system and telephone.

The second suspect refused to exit the home for nearly two hours.

Deputies evacuated nearby apartments as precautionary measure.

Once the second suspect was arrested, emergency crews contained the chemicals in the apartment and residents were allowed to return to their homes.

32-year-old Keith David Wheeldon was arrested and charged with making and possessing Methamphetamine.

Wheeldon's bond was set at $30,000.

41-year-old Michael William Keene as arrested and charged with making and possessing methamphetamine.

Keene's bond was set at $60,000.
