GAINESVILLE, Fla.-- The person of interest in the case of missing UF freshman Christian Aguilar is now in jail.
Aguilar hasn't been seen since last Thursday when, police say, he got into a fight with another UF student, Pedro Bravo. Bravo says he may have left Aguilar along the side of the road injured.
Bravo is now behind bars. Police have charged him with depriving a victim of medical care, a third degree felony that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Christian's father, Carlos Aguilar, told Action News that with Bravo in custody, he feels closer to finding his son.
"It's a relief," he said. "Really knowing that the person that has the information that's crucial to the investigation that is the best source of information that we have that he might stay in jail."
Meanwhile a search through the Gainesville woods continues for Christian.
"I feel like I'm going to look in the wrong spot and that's what I'm scared for," said Christian's brother Alexander Aguilar. "I'll call out his name and he'll be trying to reach us and we won't be able to hear him."
But a family that's experienced a rollercoaster of feelings says the only thing they haven't felt is hate for the only suspect in the case -- Pedro Bravo.
"I don't have time for hate right now," said Christian's father. "I have to be smart enough to know that the only piece of information who's out there, he's the one who holds it, that's the key. If you have a key to a door you can't throw it away forever."
Bravo is expected to make his first appearance at Alachua County Circuit Court Tuesday at 9:00 AM. The search is also expected to continue Tuesday morning.
