PALATKA, Fla -- Police say a Kentucky mom on the run for weeks was hiding out in Putnam County.
Heather Kaminsky, 30, was wanted on felony human trafficking charges after police say she traded her newborn son for a 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup truck.
Thanks to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, she's now back in her home state and faced a judge Tuesday.
"I don't know. Don't know how I feel. Don't know what to think," the mom said.
From jail, Kaminsky says she's innocent.
"They need to investigate and stop doing hearsay," she said. "And that's all it is. Someone called them and they got a tip on this and that. And that's what they believe."
Kaminsky was actually picked up by police in Palatka on a warrant. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office says they're proud to have played a huge role in finding the mom on the run.
"Detective Merchant came through," said Deputy Sheriff Hansel Woods. "He used his knowledge he's been here a long time and he knows the area that he works and the people very well and this is a very good example of that he was able to sort of develop leads out of nothing and we were able to make the arrest."
The Sheriff's Office tells us the couple who traded their truck for the baby, Jeremy and Jaimee Brown, now also face human trafficking charges. Kaminsky says it isn't how it sounds.
"You guys see a birth certificate? Jeremy Brown is on it. So how can I sell a baby when he is on the birth certificate," she said.
But police say they have probable cause to have arrested her.
Action News has also learned she's had two other children taken from her by the Florida Department of Children and Families.
Investigators say Kaminsky had eventually sold that pickup truck for $800 and meth.
She'll be back in court in Kentucky at the end of the month.
