JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A local mother will spend 27 years in a Florida prison for trading sex with her daughter for drugs.
"It's all right," said Dalina Nicholas.
Those are the last words Nicholas said before an officer escorted her from the courtroom. Nicholas told the judge she used drugs 24/7 and couldn't stop.
"Everything I've put my heart into, I've lost to this drug," said Nicholas.
She claimed her addiction to crack led to constant sexual abuse on her little girl and now she is stuck with a 27-year sentence behind bars.
Nicholas was convicted on four count of child neglect which resulted in great bodily harm.
Prosecutor Alan Mizrahi said it's just horrible.
"Its hard listening to what the little child had to experience and what her little brother had to experience every day. It's heart-wrenching," said Mizrahi.
Nicholas told the court its her fault she had several men in and out of her home daily and she has nightmares about what happened to her children.
"Of course, it doesn't excuse it, but she was willing to testify against the perpetrator," said Mizrahi.
Nicholas said she will have to live with this tragedy forever, but hopes her family forgives her.
Mizrahi said the two children have been adopted.
