ORANGE PARK, Fla.-- As they show thanks for our country's independence, Clay County neighbors are also thankful to have their local celebration.
"Practically the only thing we do on the Fourth of July," said Linda Kerr of Fleming Island.
After 12 years of running the celebration, Orange Park and the Rotary Club both decided not to do it. Moosehaven, which simply hosted the celebration in years past, has now stepped in and saved it. Director John Capes says it's a critical part of Clay holiday culture.
"The closest other events are up in Jacksonville over in Jax Beach or down in Keystone, so this is really pretty much it for the people of Clay County," said Capes.
Neighbors couldn't agree more.
"There's not many places in Clay County to come to on the Fourth of July," said Kerr.
Moosehaven says it is happy to take on the celebration and plans on doing it for years to come.
"We're going to keep doing it," said Capes.
