JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Firefighters with the Florida Forest Service are headed west to help with wildfires.
Earlier this week, two dozen firefighters from Florida hit the road to fight fires in Oregon. Two firefighters went to help on the fire lines in California.
On Friday, the Florida Forest Service announced it will send 40 additional firefighters to the front lines in several western states.
"We are proud to offer the expertise of the Florida Forest Service to help states that are battling severe wildfires," said Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam, "The knowledge and experiences that our firefighters will gain will also strengthen our ability to protect the people, structures and natural resources of Florida."
Two crews are from Duval County. Three crews are coming from Clay County, and two crews each from Baker, Nassau and Union counties.
