i feel so bad for the mom who lost her child.. all of you taking crap about the mom either don't have kids or you must be super moms for always paying attention to your kids 100% of the time i am sorry but no parent out there can do that she did not blame the dog or the owners. no dog should be left out alone never mind on a chain period. if you don't have a fence go outside and be with them or take them for a walk. if you can't that don't have a dog . everyone in this story is at fault not just one. rip baby .

from what i read in this story the mother is not blaming the dog, or the owners of the dog. i believe she is relating to the fact that dogs seem to be more territorial when chained or penned. in my personal experience, i have been bitten by dogs who knew me well, but i was trying to pat them through a fence, when they were penned. call her a bad mother for letting her kid wander off, but the kid is now gone, and she has to live with that loss forever. and to reiterate, she's not blaming the dog or the owners.

they should pass a law that requires shitty parents to chain their child to themselves. Pay attention. be responsible. do not blame other people for your issues. this is an unfortunate situation that could have been avoided if she fulfilled her rights as a parent.

Wow! So let me get this straight.. Since this so called parent wasn't watching HER child and let the child wonder off is trying to pass a law? Umm can we say that this so called parent should be arrested for having THEIR child go on a neighbors property... The dog was in the neighbors yard not harming anyone.. Word of the wise DUMBA@@ watch YOUR child! sheesh!!

A 17 m/o was left unsupervised, so the parent blames the neighbor. More people need to take personal responsibility.I don't think dogs should be chained, but instead of laws to ensure dog owners keep their dogs safe, why don't we encourage parents to ensure their children are safe, if that poor child was behind a safe fence, this wouldn't have occured.

I don't think any dog should be chained. It makes them territorial. If you don't have time to walk your dog or can't afford a fence, then you shouldn't get a dog. If someone wants to break into your house, they will just go to the other side from the dog. Don't blame the dog for biting. There are some people that just shouldn't own a dog!

It could have been a distracted driver or anything that harmed the child. From a problem solving view, the child was unsupervised. Is this an area where homeowners need to chain a large dog in front to protect the home? If so, then extra parental precautions are obvious.

and why was this retard not attending to the kid????? i think she should be put down not the dog i mean come on! the dog was minding its own business when this MOTHER left her kid alone to do groceries??? my first idea is to have the kid STRAPPED down or at least put into the house before getting groceries first dont you think?? so dont blame the dog or neighbors blame the bad parenting on this idiot.
