Movement of war monument top of mind in Jacksonville Monday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- City leaders are expected to meet Monday afternoon to talk about moving a local war monument.
Veterans in the River City told Action News they wanted the Veterans War Monument moved because of the conditions it is surrounded by.
It currently sits at the old courthouse in downtown Jacksonville. Local vets tell us it's been neglected -- just like the old courthouse.
"We had five or six guys out here working with lawn mowers, shovels and rakes. We got rid of all the old shrubs and covered all the old grass and everything," said local war vet, Lee Bertrand.
City council members and local veteran organizations will meet at 3p.m. Monday to discuss the possible movement of the monument and other potential locations.
