JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A deadly shooting the Fat Kat Lounge in Murray Hill is the last straw for nearby businesses and neighbors.

A candle and flowers now sit at the entrance of the Murray Hill nightclub, which was the scene of a quintuple shooting Sunday that left one person dead.

Several businesses on Edgewood Avenue tell Action News the violence is not uncommon. None spoke on camera for fear of retaliation.

The vice president of the Murray Hill Preservation Association, Len Burroughs, said fear is not what his neighborhood needs.

"Somebody is dead again. It's time for this place to go away for this type of business," said Burroughs.

According to Burroughs, the issue will be addressed at the association's next meeting and with Sheriff John Rutherford directly.

"This time, the neighborhood is going to take it much more seriously," said Burroughs. "If nothing else, increase security to where this stuff can't happen."

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has still not released the identity of the person who died or the four people who were injured.

For two days, Action News has requested the records of previous police activity at the club from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office but the agency cannot tell us how long it will take to gather that information.

Action News has learned the club has received several code violation notices from the city. In 2010 it was cited for two illegal banner signs and for a damaged fence.

Then in 2012, a complaint was filed for not having a certificate of use, and in 2013, it received a citation for an illegal sign placed on a traffic box.

"It's just gotten too bad and our business community is coming back. We've got Bold Bean Coffee Roasters is going in, we have new things happening here. There's no place for this anymore," said Burroughs.

Murray Hill Preservation Association will hold a meeting Thursday, Feb. 27, at Murray Hill Presbyterian Church.

Repeated calls and voice mails to the owner of the Fat Kat building have gone unanswered.

I lose sleep often due to the thumping of the bass as late as 4am. There is also yelling in the streets and people urinating near their cars. Male and female. Trash is left everywhere. Also, if there are off duty JSO inside the club already as security, as reported, how much more could one do?

Blaming the Club for the act of a criminal how novel. If one their business gets robbed can we shut them down then claiming they are attracting the wrong kind of business?
