PALATKA, Fla. -- The FBI is investigating after two people were sent to the hospital after they opened an envelope that caused skin irritation.

It happened at the Putnam County Tax Collector's Office.

Bob Sebaus came to the antique car show one block over from the tax collector's office. He says he came to check out the cars and relax on Friday night.

"Nice quaint, little town, usually pretty quiet,'' he said.

But when he got there he learned about a mysterious letter found at the tax collector's office.

The Palatka Fire Department tells Action News one of the victims said the envelope smelled like poison. The victim's skin started to get irritated after she opened the envelope.

"They had opened up an envelope and one of the employees got irritated skin and was a little nauseated," said Putnam County Tax Collector Ken Mahaffey.

Two workers were taken to the hospital and federal investigators were called in.

The letter was bagged and given to the FBI, according to the Palatka fire Department. The FBI will take it to a lab for testing.

Seabaus thought he was coming for a quiet night out.

Turns out there was more happening in Palatka than he would have liked.

"Sad situation, sad that you can't go to work and know that you are going to be safe and go home that night," said Seabaus.
