NAS Jax cancels 2013 air show
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The 2013 Air Show at NAS Jacksonville in October has been canceled.
The announcement came just days after the Navy canceled all 2013 performances by the Blue Angels due to budget concerns.
NAS Jacksonville says current Defense policy states that outreach events can only be supported with local assets at no cost to the government.
"This is a very tough decision because the people of Jacksonville love their Navy and we sincerely appreciate their support. Our air shows are a way to say thank you. But our decision came down to priorities which are operational readiness and supporting the warfighter," said Capt. Bob Sanders, the commanding officer of NAS Jacksonville.
