PALM COAST, Fla. -- The initial crash report from the National Transportation Safety Board shows a small plane had engine trouble before slamming into a house in Palm Coast.
The crash on January 4 killed all three people on board. The homeowner escaped with minor injuries.
Crash investigators say the pilot notified air traffic controllers in Daytona to report vibrations in the propeller and engine. The FAA Daytona Approach Controller directed the Beechcraft H35 plane to Flagler County Airport in Palm Coast.
Soon after, the pilot reported the engine oil pressure was at zero with "cool cylinders."
The pilot was cleared to land on runway 29. Daytona Approach lost contact with the plane about two miles from the runway.
According to investigators, several witnesses saw the plane on its final approach at an "unusually low altitude." They lost sight of the plane when it disappeared behind tall pine trees about a mile from the airport.
The NTSB says the plane hit a tree. Some parts of the plane broke off at that point, but a majority of it crashed into a home. The large fire that followed destroyed most of the plane and home.
The crash killed 57-year-old Michael Anders of Albany, KY; 59-year-old Duane Shaw of Albany, KY; and 42-year-old Charissee Peoples, of Indianapolis
