WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Transportation Safety Board just received a recommendation from its staff to urge states to tighten the legal drinking limit for drivers from .08 to .05.

Board members, meeting in Washington, voted in support of the proposal.

The NTSB has been studying how to restart a downward trend in drunken driving deaths, after a steady drop in fatalities stabilized in recent years.
