NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- Action News has learned Nassau County Fire Chief Chuck Cooper resigned, after serving his county for 10 years.
The Nassau County Coordinator says there were several complaints about Cooper's conduct, including two investigations where he was accused of putting firefighters in jeopardy. Action News is told Cooper's resignation did not have anything to do with those claims.
Cooper will get a severance of $53,000.
Assistant Fire Chief Sam Young will fill in as Interim Fire Chief. Young will hold the position for six months. The county will then review and make a decision on a new Chief.
