JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The commander of a reserve battalion based in Jacksonville has been relieved of duty.

Capt. Sean McDonell has been relieved due to a loss in confidence, mismanagement and major program deficiencies. McDonell led the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 14.

Commander Todd Smith will take over on an interim basis until Commander Mark Williams steps in next summer.

NMCB 14 is a Seabee reserve unit in Jacksonville. The unit builds roads, bridges, bunkers, airfields, and logistical bases. It also helps with global humanitarian efforts.
