JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Action News spoke with multiple neighbors and they've all heard of Charity Chatman and they all miss Onnika Fisher.
Boys in the Driftwood Apartment complex love to play at the park, but now they're missing a friend, 6-year-old Onnika Fisher. Joseph Hiner says Fisher is a fun playmate. "She was sweet and like playful and hyper," said Hiner. Fisher's playmates were shocked when their mom told them their friend was kidnapped by her mother. "I thought it was kind of unusual because like the little girl, she's very nice and it didn't seen like anything was going wrong," said Hiner.
In fact, several neighbors including Lindsay Warren were shocked to learn someone living in their complex is now wanted by police. "It was just creepy. I thought nothing like that would happen. I've only been here for six months and it's been quiet," said Warren. "And the fact that the mother is mentally ill is a very scary situation," said Ann Nitschke, who is visiting her daughter who lives in the complex.
JSO deputies say they're searching all over town for any information that may lead them to Onnika. While some neighbors we spoke with are surprised by the kidnapping, others claim they heard whispers about the mother's odd behavior. "I've heard some horror stories about her making up stories and that she's a little "crazy," said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous.
Aside from whispers, one neighbor claims she saw police at Chatman's home numerous times. "Yes I have seen the police at her house. There are several times where they've been to her house and she's not opened the door and when they've removed her child from the house, but other than that I haven't seen anything or heard anything about her harming her child," said Ayesha Davis.
This entire community is hoping Onnika is safe, and her playmates have a message for Charity Chapman. "I'd say it's not right to abduct your child and bring her somewhere she doesn't know, and to bring her back," said Hiner.
Saturday morning during a press conference, JSO says its main concern is for Onnika'a safety, and officials are hoping for her safe return as well.
