JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Neighbors say they heard the shots, and are shocked to hear the victim was a five-year-old boy.

He's been identified by police as Joshua Griffin.

"I heard a single shot. It was a single shot that woke me up," said neighbor Maurice Cummings.

The shooting happened around 7:30 on Tuesday night, at a house at 9265 Danville Avenue.  Police say a man entered the yard and fired a shot into the home before running away.

According to police, Joshua's mother called 911 after she heard shots, saw the broken window, and found her son laying on the couch with a gunshot to the head.

"Only by the grace of God are we out here not working a murder," says Chief Tom Hackney. The little boy was taken to Shands and is in stable condition.

According to JSO, there were other children home at the time, but no one else was injured. Detectives also say they believe the shooting was random, and not related to anyone inside the home.

15-hours later, police are still trying to piece together where those shots came from.

As for neighbors, they say they're glad the situation wasn't worse.

"It's something. I'm glad the boy didn't get killed. Thank God for that," said Cummings.

If you know anything that can help JSO, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS. You will remain anonymous and you could get a cash reward of up to $1,000 if your tip leads to an arrest.

And once again no one saw anything or at least they don't have the guts to talk to the cops.

Why would a man shoot into a house for no reason at all, it don't make any sense. A baby was shot in the head, I think a lot of investigating needs to happen to get the truth out and the shooter in prison. M.MARTIN, ST.MARY,S GA.
