JACKSONVILLE Fla.-- Neighbors at Baymeadows Inn & Suites have a new problem. After they were forced to leave because bankruptcy is closing down the complex, they're now struggling to get their money back.
Deirdre Leggroan has lived at Baymeadows Inn & Suites for more than two years, but she had mere hours to pack up car loads of her life.
"There was pretty much no warning," she said. "When I came home last night there was a hand written note on my door that said the facility has closed down."
Noiw Leggroan tells Action News she is struggling to get back rent she just turned in.
"They are trying to say that we owe now and that there's no refund to us and sorry too bad, too sad, you got to go," she said.
Leggroan showed Action News a receipt to prove she had paid her rent in full.
Other neighbors who did get some of their cash returned say they're still waiting on a full refund.
"I paid $225 on Sunday and they just gave me $161 back," said Mandy Fayson.
Action News visited the management office, to find out why they were not refunding everyone's rent. They said they weren't talking.
The lawyer for Apex Holding who owns Baymeadows Inn & Suites property says everyone who paid for a room where they will not be able to stay is in the process of being reimbursed, but for neighbors, when every penny counts, that cash can't get back in their wallets fast enough.
