NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. -- The City of Neptune Beach is taking steps to save its sand dunes.

City leaders are concerned about the impact of years of wear and tear all along the beaches. The sand dunes and the sea oats along Florida shores are protected by state law. Trespassers can be fined.

Mayor Harriet Pruette told Action News, "The homeowners have every bit of right to cut paths through their homes. People are abusing dunes, running through dunes, walking through dunes. I'm seeing more than I've ever seen."

Pruette said she has reached out to Rep. Ander Crenshaw's office for help. All funding and restoration would come from state and federal sources.
