JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A college education doesn't come cheap.

"It is costly," said Florida State College at Jacksonville student Karla Finley.

Finley is in her third year working to get a degree in paralegal studies. But she's intrigued by a brand new option -- mostly because of its price tag.

"We have created a $10,000 bachelor's degree in logistics and supply chain management," said new president Dr. Cynthia Bioteau.

Gov. Rick Scott had put out a challenge for all state schools to offer the discounted degree.

Bioteau said the logistics degree was chosen because it is a highly sought-after field in Jacksonville. And the ultimate goal is to keep graduates local.

"The $10,000 logistics degree speaks precisely to an industry sector in the Jacksonville area that is so critical to the future," she said.

JAXPORT is one of many local entities that will be able to cash in on the graduates the degree will provide. Finley said this is the case of a little money going a long way for her city.

"If we stay here in our community it helps build the community. We don't have people getting degrees and going off to other places," said Finley.

The bachelor's degrees will be available to students starting this fall.
