MAYPORT, Fla. -- Mayport will be home to 76 more Coast Guardsmen and their families when their cutter arrives Friday.
The Coast Guard Cutter Valiant will arrive at 10 a.m. for a permanent homeport change.
The 210-foot medium endurance cutter is moving from Miami and brings a crew of 12 officers, 64 enlisted personnel and their families.
The Valiant is a multi-mission cutter that operates in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. The cutter's missions include search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, marine environmental protection, defense readiness, and waterways and coastal security.
The Valiant's move to the Jacksonville area opens space in Miami for the Coast Guard's new Sentinel-class Fast Response Cutters which will be homeported there.
