JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The coach of the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick, says he has a lot of respect for Tim Tebow.
The Patriots held a news conference today on the signing of former Nease High School football star and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow.
"He's a talented player who's smart and works hard," said Belichick. "We will do what we think's best for the football team."
Tebowmania is ratcheting up in the New England area.
According to a tweet from Darren Rovell, a business reporter and business correspondent at ESPN, the Patriots sent out an email to fans, encouraging them to get their Tebow jerseys.
The Patriots picked up Tebow after the New York Jets released him earlier this year.
Tebow won a Heisman Trophy and two national championships with the Florida Gators before being drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2010.
Ironically, it was Tom Brady and the Patriots who ended Tebow's Cinderella run in the playoffs in 2012 with a 45-10 rout in Foxborough, Mass.
Tebow will have two opportunities this year to show what he's made of to his old teams. The Patriots host the New York Jets on Thursday, September 12. It's a night game on the NFL Network. The Patriots will also host Denver on Sunday, November 24.
