JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The words seemed to sit over the crowd and linger.

"As far as Tim goes, he is a member of the New York Jets. So I can't imagine a scenario where he would be a Jacksonville Jaguar,” said David Caldwell, the new General Manager for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It was so shocking to some, Caldwell was asked to repeat himself.

"I can't imagine a scenario where he'd be a Jacksonville Jaguar,” he said again.

Tim Tebow, the homegrown quarterback hailed as a hero to many, was shot down Thursday by the new team leadership.

So what do local businesses think about the comment?

"I like the fact that he was honest to the press and everyone else in this community,” said Justin McCoy of Sports Mania.

McCoy says he’s just happy the topic was finally put to bed and he doesn’t foresee it affecting their sales.

"I think it was a pretty good idea, what he said,” McCoy said, “Instead of putting this community in a hostile situation for several months, he came out and said Tim Tebow will not be the future of the Jaguars."

It’s a choice Jags owner Shad Khan says wasn’t his, but he certainly stands behind it.

“I believe in empowering people, giving them resources and then holding them accountable,” said Khan. “I want to do whatever to help this team win, but who the players are is really the GMs and coaches, and the football side of the operations' decision. It's really not my decision."

It is a shame the new GM feels that way, however Tebow would be an asset to the team. If we want better for the team and with winning results... First, must make changes into that direction. We have took the first steps it seems. Now for the progress of the team. If it is only about the money, then it has never been any secret, you have to spend little money to make money! I pray that a praying team player and true sportsman in football as well as others like him do come to the Jags. And more effort for the players been LOYAL to the team. GO JAGS! And bring on the Roar of the Jags for the great support they continue to give.

When Tebow left Denver for NY., It was obvious that he did not want to come to Jax….I can't say as I blame him…The opportunity was there...If he can not make it as a QB in the NFL, if I were him, I certainly wouldn't want that to happen here.

The thing I don't get about Tebow and the negative attitude toward the guy: Possibly 1 of the greatest college football players ever -- true 2 nat'l championships -- true other 2 college seasons were good -- true No longer a college ball player--true 1 and only season he has been allowed to play in the NFL -- his record was almost perfect! -- true Would the record have been the same as Manning's this season if he had played an entire season -- we will never know -- true Would the Jets season have ended with a better record this year if Tebow had been allowed to play -- we will never know -- true One of the biggest mistakes in the NFL this year was keeping Sanchez in while Tebow was healthy and never giving Tebow a chance -- true to sum it up --why wouldn't the Jets give Tebow the opportunity to really screw it up this season so everyone would have proof he is not an NFL caliber quarterback? The only thing anyone can say about Tebow's NFL career as a starting quarterback is that he has a winning record. So, I guess we can only assume when a quarterback wins in the starting position one season and takes the team to the playoffs (beating one of the best teams -- Steelers and one of the most ridiculous organizations -- Jets) -- he should be benched the next season and be mocked and ridiculed. PRICELESS!

The NFL has been unfair in its treatment of Tim Tebow...he is a great person and a great leader, with awesome values...he has the gift to inspire others and he always takes the high road. I was hoping the Jaguars would be the team that would give him the opportunity to shine. He needs a team who can support him, someone to mentor him and guide him, he can do the job given the right leadership. Jacksonville believes in him and jags fans want him, unfortunately Shad Kahn and the new GM were unwilling to take a chance on him. He would fill the stadium...I for one will not be renewing my season tickets.

Whether Tim Tebow will be a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars or not is not necessarily the point of what this young man will do after his stint with the New York Jets. I believe that Tim Tebow has not been given the chance he needs in the NFL to prove himself. I do hope that he gets the opportunity to play for a team that really WANTS him. John Elway said from the beginning that he didn't think Tebow had the "right stuff" to be an NFL quarterback. I guess everyone in charge in the NFL has jumped on Elway's bandwagon regarding Tim. Whatever else can be said about him, I believe Tebow is a leader and can inspire others to achieve their best.

I can already tell that I won't like the new Jags coach . I think that he should try and get Tebow on the team.....would be great for morale and for the city of Jax.
