New evidence released in case against city's youngest murder suspect
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Action News has just obtained new police interrogation video of 13-year-old Cristian Fernandez.
In the video he seems soft spoken and timid and even a little unsure on what's going on. The state attorney's office only released five minutes of the interview.
A JSO investigator is seen asking Cristian, not about the murder of his little brother, but instead about the sexual battery charges he's now facing. The investigator goes on to read Cristian his rights. Eventually, Cristian agrees to talk to her. That part of the tape was not released.
We did contact both the state attorney and one of Cristian's attorneys. Both declined to comment on this evidence.
Cristian's mother, Bianela Susana pleaded guilty to charges of manslaughter in the boy's death. She could face up to 30 years in jail on those charges.
Cristian is set to stand trial on the sexual battery charges on June 25th. Jury selection should start that day. His murder trial is scheduled for September.
