New law cracks down on disabled parking permits

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A new state law now requires disabled drivers to submit certificates of disability every time they renew their parking permits.

a better approach is to have police check the permit against vehicle occupants !!! if the handicapped person is not in vehicle then issue them a summons if they are parked in a handicapped spot !!! a lot of folks simply borrow these stickers when going to the store !!! here in st. john's the sheriffs actually inspect stickers,, but not the vehicles occupants to ascertain the handicapped individual is with them !!! once every 4 years recertification of disability should not be a problem for the handicapped

I know how it is to need this parking. Do not use it much. Use it when I have to be out and having an especially difficult day. I do not "look" "handicapped," but I do live with several physical problems that can make walking painful. I have always had to have a form signed by my doctor to renew my placard. Not a problem for me.
