CLAY COUNTY, Fla.-- A new school opened Monday in Clay County. The district is trying to keep small class sizes with increasing students.
Many of these kids had an extra skip in their step this morning. They're the first bunch to go to a brand new school at Plantation Oaks.
"The kids are really excited to be the first ones in school," said parent, Dana Fontenette.
Fontenette brought her 5th and 3rd graders in today. She's noticed all the growth in the county over the last few years, 5,000 more kids in five years to be exact. That's putting more kids in the classroom, something the superintendent says he'll work hard to prevent.
"One way or another we will have a balanced budget and class sizes," said Ben Wortham, Superintendent.
That makes parents like Fontenette happy. "The classes are pretty small and they get a lot of attention with teachers. The teachers talk to us and are real personal," said Fontenette.
