JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Months after they battled it out during a debate held at the University of North Florida, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney have joined forces in the push to elect Romney as President of the United States.

The former rivals spent months promoting their differences, but today they're promoting their common bond of the Republican Party.

"The Republican party is unified and energized," Lenny Curry, Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, told Action News.  "What I'm seeing on the ground is that people are motivated to replace President Obama and put somebody in office that has a vision and that's Mitt Romney."

Gingrich is expected to display that unity when he visits the Republican Party of Jacksonville headquarters Thursday.  Curry says Gingrich will meet with Romney supporters and help make phone calls to Northeast Florida voters to encourage them to cast their ballots of Romney in November.

"People love Newt Gingrich.  He's an idea guy and right now the country is looking for ideas.  They're looking for solutions so I expect tomorrow to be an energetic day and an exciting day, and a good day in North Florida and Florida for Mitt Romney."

The Newt Gingrich Meet and Greet event begins at noon at the Republican Party of Jacksonville Headquarters, 4963 Beach Blvd.  Those hoping to meet Gingrich are encouraged to arrive early.  Organizers are unsure how long the event will last.
