No charges in school gun case

BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Police say there will be no charges in the case of a gun being brought to school by a second grader in southeast Georgia.

The boy brought the unloaded gun in his backpack to CB Greer Elementary School. Police believe the boy wanted to use it for show-and-tell.

The owner of the .25 caliber handgun kept it hidden and had no idea it even disappeared, according to police.

"It does not appear from our perspective that the gun's owner deviated from a reasonable standard of care," said Chief Rod Ellis. "We felt there was no probable cause to bring a child endangerment or reckless conduct case against the owner under Georgia Law."

The owner of the gun is a friend of the boy's family.  He had the gun in a shoebox on a top shelf where someone needed a chair to get to it.  He also stored the ammunition in a separate location.
