Northbound Philips Hwy. back open after serious crash
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Philips Highway southbound is closed on the Southside due to a serious crash near St. Augustine Road. The northbound lanes were reopened just before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The JSO Traffic Homicide responded to the scene. They said the collision happened at 5:07 a.m. when a maroon SUV traveling northbound on Philips Highway slammed into a blue car that was pulling out into the road. The driver of the SUV was ejected and taken to Shands in critical condition. The other driver was not hurt.
JSO said they believe alcohol and speed - on the part of the SUV driver - were factors in the crash.
No word yet on when the southbound lanes will reopen.
