ST. MARYS, Ga. -- Fired for Facebook. A local cop is looking for a new job because of a post on his Facebook page.

Action News did some digging and found out this isn't the first time an agency has dropped Robert Godley. He was fired for looking at porn on government computers. Even though he was fired just two weeks ago for a comment on Facebook, he still has an account.

Police officers are supposed to gain the trust of the public, but the St. Marys police department said Robert Godley violated that. He made a comment about a group one of his friends joined called "Keep sex offenders off of Facebook."

Godley wrote "What do you mean then we would have nowhere to go!!! Hahaha!!!!" His Facebook picture shows him wearing his St. Marys police uniform.

Someone was offended by the comment and turned him into the department. Kyle Landor lives in the community and says he understands why it'd be offensive. "They should know better. I'd stay away if I had a job like that," said Landor.

But it doesn't stop there. The department did more digging into Godley's past. They found out he was fired from NSB Kings Bay for more than just looking at porn on a government computer. Godley told them it only happened once. They found a new file from Kings Bay saying he'd looked at child pornography several times on different days. That's a huge concern for people like Kathy Nunez.

"For what he represents, city county or whatever being a police officer, he has a higher standard," said Nunez.

It's that higher standard that St. Marys police ultimately fired him over. They said the comment on Facebook discredited the department in the eyes of the public. Godley has since changed his picture on Facebook. He's no longer in a police officer's uniform.

We did talk to one person who's known Godley for a long time. They didn't want to go on camera, but said Godley should've had his badge taken away a long time ago. Godley was also an officer for the Camden County Sheriff's Department. We put a call into them to see why he left the department, but our calls weren't returned.

Facebook this is one word that is known in every language. It's the one place where you can also find out a lot about people, or long lost family/friends/lovers. That is why I don't see how any one person can get mad for a post for all to see. Not to mention this man was an officer of the law and no matter what in his uniform or not. If he makes it known on what he does he should never have said that, and should always watch what he says/post on the social network! Get a real life! You did this to yourself and your family. I just hope for thier sake that they don't loose thier jobs because of you.
