GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Officials believe a bomb threat called in to a rental car company at the Gainesville Regional Airport was not intended for the North Florida airport.

The Gainesville Police Department evacuated the airport just after noon on Friday after they say a bomb threat was made over the phone to Avis Rental Car.

Numerous agencies swept the airport and gave the all-clear about an hour and a half after the initial call.

Investigators believe the hoax was called in to Avis Rental Car's national 1-800 number and eventually transferred to their Gainesville location.

Several flights were affected by the incident.

Operations returned back to normal by Friday afternoon.

No arrests have been made.
