In my 40+ years of driving I have had blow outs on cars, trucks SUVs and Motor-homes both front and rear tires while driving at highway speeds. I have never come close to loosing control of the vehicle. I do not understand how people do this, do they just lock up the brakes?

Just think of how much more meaningful and useful this story could have been if the writer had explained how to tell the age of a tire.
