LAKE CITY, Fla. -- One man is dead after a police shooting in Lake City Tuesday morning.

Lake City police responded to a 911 call of disturbance at approximately 2:27 a.m. As officers approached the door at the Windsong Apartment Complex apartment, the suspect came outside of the apartment with a handgun and pointed it at the officers, according to LCPD.

One officer then drew his weapon and fired at the suspect, killing him at the scene. He was identified as 30-year-old Jeramey Sweeny.

Both the State Attorney's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement responded to the scene and are assisting with the investigation.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in these incidents.

NO ONE should be wielding a weapon as they exit a residence AFTER the law has been called. Unless they are WANTING suicide by cop. That's why we have Law enforcement. It's THEIR job not ours, and no doubt this guy was up to no good.
