JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- One person rescued from a duplex fire Thursday night is dead.

Investigators with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the victim is a woman who was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Crews with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department pulled five people from the burning duplex on West 10th Street just north of Kings Road.

Two were taken to UF Health in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Another person was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The other two people refused transport. Pets were also saved from the fire.

Fire investigators say they were able to bring the flames under control within 10 minutes.

Sheriff's Deputies say the preliminary investigation shows an accident with a candle might be the cause of the fire.

Homicide detectives and the State Fire Marshal's Office are both conducting investigations into the cause of the fire.

I watched with a heavy heart after I saw that senior citizen in a home in Jacksonville Fl. in this wonderful United States Land Of Plenty and I cried as that poor lady spoke of the loss of her daughter in a fire and they had no electricity. this is a moral travesty. I also was down and out and owing on my electric bill last year. I tried to get help from the electric company that I paid on time for years to and they said they did not have assistance programs to help me. I paid into such programs for years to help people like this sweet senior mentioned above. I think of my mom or grandmother and if they were cold when I was warm and comfy? I'd die! OMG! I had surgery and was not going to be earning any money and the electric co. directed me to 3-4 local churches that may help and I tried and called and was put off and had to speed dial to try to beat some other poor person just to get help! I was told sorry money just ran out. I had to try a second and third and a forth. I was now a begger. and nothing I could do or say was helping me. This country needs to wake up and assist our seniors who toiled through out their lives to gives us our country as it is today. We need to help them! We need to stand up and fight for them. My aim and goal as of this day is to start a program to pay electric bills for seniors or people down on their luck. I'm sure I'll get suckered by some smarter not worthy scammers but I just can't sit in my nice light warm home and think this poor lady and others like her freezing or burning to death because I did nothing. God put us here to love each other and care for each other. I will be learning how to start this program and will accept help in getting it put in motion. Your papa or Meema or sister or brother will never be without heat or lights or A/C ever again if I can help it. May God bless this por sweet woman and give her peace that her sweet daughter is in Jesus hands. Things have to change folks. I MUST HELP NOW! LOOK SOON FOR MY AD!
