One firefighter hurt fighting flames at New River Correctional in Bradford County
RAIFORD, Fla. -- The fire marshal is investigating a 2 alarm fire at New River Correctional in Raiford.
The 911 call came in around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. Michael Heeder with Bradford County Emergency Management says, firefighters were on scene within 5 minutes.
Heeder said, the fire started in a vacant warehouse and spread to another vacant structure. He says it threatened another structure but was brought under control before it could spread further.
The facility is located near the Union County line on State Road 16. The inmates at the correctional facility are housed on the other side of SR 16. Heeder says, no inmates were impacted.
Heeder says the flames broke through the roof of the original building. He says, "This could have been much worse. We were saved by an aggresive attack on the fire by our firefighters."
He says, one fire fighter was being treated for heat exhaustion. No one else was hurt.
