LAKE CITY, Fla. -- One man is dead and another injured following a double shooting during a home invasion. The Lake City Police Department responded to a call of a man dead outside of a home at 1338 East Washington Street. Upon arrival they found 22-year-old Johnnie Collins dead. 26-year-old Travis Brown was found with gunshot wounds. He is now recovering from surgery at UF and Shands Gainesville.
Police believe the shooting is a result of an attempted robbery. They believe the two suspects entered the home on East Washington Street armed with a handgun. The homeowner told police he then armed himself with his own handgun and fired at the two suspects, hitting them both.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now working with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office in the investigation.
An autopsy and toxicology report is on Collins is due later this month.
