ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- One person is recovering from injuries sustained during an armed robbery of the Rowe's supermarket on Wells Road in Orange Park, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say John Wilkinson, 25, entered the store Saturday evening, pistol whipped a clerk and took off with her cash drawer containing an undisclosed amount of money.

Deputies say witnesses flagged them down and told them they saw Wilkinson climb into a blue four-door behind the Locales Pub on Wells Road. Police say he, then, drove away and into the parking lot of a Dicks Wings Restaurant. That's when, they say, they stopped Wilkinson and arrested him before he could go inside.

The cash drawer was found on the passenger floorboard of Wilkinson's car.

CCSO says it was able to take Wilkinson into custody and thanks the citizens along Wells Road for their alertness.

The injured clerk is expected to recover.

Wilkinson was charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and grand theft.

"...flagged down the suspect's car to deputies." They may have "flagged down" a deputy and directed him to the crooks' car but they didn't do as stated. Does your all's editor actually get paid?
