ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Tina Valler walks her children home from school everyday. She always makes sure to keep an eye on other kids too.

"If I see anything funny, I ask them, hey is everything ok," said Valler.

Parents and other people living around in Somer Thompson's Orange Park neighborhood are being more cautious than ever.
According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, they've seen an increase in the number of children reporting suspicious people and cars in their neighborhoods.

"I'm not surprised. I think people are being a lot more cautious," said Valler.

They're being even more careful after hearing about a little girl who told police a strange man asked her if she wanted a ride home. A teacher saw the car following her and then it sped away.

The teacher who spotted the suspicious incident was part of an after school neighborhood watch program at a nearby elementary school.

The principal at W.E. Cherry has volunteers stand at 11 different spots around the school and watch to make sure students get home safely.

It's just one of the many ways this community is banding together to keep Tina Valler and other parent's kids safe.
