STARKE, Fla. -- An Orange Park man is dead after a chain-reaction crash in Bradford County that closed the road for four hours.

The accident happened before noon today at a construction zone on State Road 230 near Starke, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol

The driver of a semi, Atremus Eady, didn't notice cars stopped in front of him. He collided with a Volkswagen Jetta driven by James H. Hunt. Jr, 64, of Orange Park. Hunt was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger Tony C. Tripp of Panama City is in critical condition at Shands Gainesville.

The vehicle in front of Hunt's overturned, causing serious injuries to the driver and passenger in the Ford Ranger. Woodrow Kitler and Margaret Kitler are both being treated at Shands in Starke.

FHP says charges are pending.
